Description

SIAC Construction Ltd have recently been awarded a contract to carryout significant improvement works to the centre of Monkstown village with the intention of enhancing the public realm of the village in addition to improving road safety in the area.

The project involves the reduction of road widths in the area and the construction of new granite pavement.  The removal of many of the existing overhead power supplies combined with the replacement of the public lighting columns will decorative lighting columns and bollards will greatly improve the streetscape in the area. New signalised pedestrian crossings will also be provided to improve pedestrian safety in the area.

Refurbishment and reconstruction works will also be carried out to the existing granite stonework and the existing cast ironwork, which form part of the protected structure known as ‘The Ring’, will also be carried out in accordance with best conservation practice.Finally, the roads in the area will also be reconstructed and surfaced with the project being completed with decorative landscaping.

Construction work commenced on site in April with work expected to be completed by the end of the year.
