Members of the Sligo Grammar School celebrate winning the Junior League Final

Dramatic Ending Makes For Quite A Memorable Day

Sligo Grammar School sponsored by SIAC Construction Ltd, Tuam, captured the Connacht Schools Junior League title on the tightest of score-lines in the match that was only decided in the final moments against Athlone’s Marist College.

A perfectly struck penalty from Eoin Doherty with a minute to go in normal time gave the winners a 6-5 lead which they doggedly defended for the four minutes of extra-time played by the referee to make for the most dramatic of finishes.

The Sligo Grammar School youngsters can be pleased with their performance which brought yet another provincial sporting tile to the county this year.

SIAC Tuam are delighted to be associated with the 2007 Connacht Junior Champions. Particular congratulations to Sean Hannon, SIAC Works Manager based on the M50 project, whose son Thomas Ferrari, (pictured on the left of the above photo) played on the winning team".

Sligo Grammar School’s victory bodes well for the future of Sligo RFC with many of the winning side’s players numbering among the club’s underage ranks. They have demonstrated the considerable talent in youth rugby locally which should be capitalised on by the local coaches.
