SIAC Makes Major UK Structural Steel Acquisition
SIAC Construction Limited, one of Ireland’s largest contractors, today announced that it has acquired Bison Structures Limited (the ‘Company’), the steel division of the Bison Group. The Company, based in Tetbury, Gloucestershire, was founded in 1971 as Tetbury Steel and has been part of the Bison Group since 1989.
With a 35-year history, the Company has a strong reputation in the UK for the design, fabrication and installation of steel structures used extensively in the industrial and commercial sectors. As one of the UK’s leading structural steel fabricators, the Company is involved in numerous projects in the residential, education and retail markets and the acquisition will consolidate and strengthen SIAC’s offering to these expanding sectors.
In the UK, SIAC specialises in glazing solutions, façades, roofing and cladding and the acquisition of the Company will position SIAC as the only specialist contractor who can offer an integrated steel framework and envelope solution for large scale project developments from one source.
Within its portfolio, SIAC already has the largest and most modern steel fabrication facility in Ireland (SIAC Butlers Steel) and for over 40 years, has been involved in some of the largest steel projects in Ireland, the UK and the Middle-East. The acquisition will allow SIAC to provide a complementary service from its UK operation.
Commenting on the transaction, Finn Lyden, Managing Director of SIAC says “This acquisition forms part of a plan to grow our UK business over the next five years. Bison Structures is already a very successful business, synonymous with quality steel structures, and complements our existing business in the UK. The synergies between our existing businesses and Bison Structures now positions SIAC as the only specialist contractor that can truly deliver a complete building envelope solution. From the customer’s perspective we can provide a ‘one-source’ service from design, fabrication, steel structure, decking, cladding and glazing along with all the benefits of dealing with one point of contact to manage the project lifecycle.”
The Company will be known as SIAC Tetbury Steel Limited and will continue to be managed and run by the existing executive team and all employees will remain in place to ensure continuity and consistency of service. “The acquisition has given new impetus to everyone within the team at Tetbury to further drive the company forward. SIAC is a major player in the market with a wealth of experience and shared commitment to providing quality and safety solutions. We are excited about the opportunity this gives us to maximise our full potential within the framework of the SIAC Group.” says Richard Cooper, Managing Director of SIAC Tetbury Steel.
SIAC’s specialist steel plants in Ireland and the UK are equipped with state-of-the-art technology and equipment to service clients from either of these locations, regardless of project scale. Through a programme of continual investment in technology and equipment, a wide range of structural steel products and related services has been developed to suit the requirements of almost any project. This includes 3D-computer modeling using the latest software developed specifically for steel manufacture.
