Asbestos

We have been involved in a number of significant projects with asbestos removal throughout the years in Ireland.

We have completed an extensive range of projects involving many challenges in the process of removing asbestos roofing over live working plants. We organise the survey of existing asbestos products to assess the asbestos content and air quality monitoring before, during and after the works are completed. We specialists in up-grading existing asbestos roofs and also deal with the full removal and repairs on damaged asbestos roofs along with installation of new external envelops when asbestos roof and cladding is removed.

We operate to the highest safety standards and are can proudly say our projects have been carried out safety to meet our client’s requirements. Our staff and operatives are all fully trained.

Generally involved with removal and disposal of same:

  • Corrugated roof sheeting containing white asbestos
  • Kal-wall sheeting
  • Felt – bituminous materials which have white asbestos intertwined in the manufactured process.
  • Asbestos containing roof tiles, guttering and down pipes
  • Asbestos insulation board (used in many applications both domestic and industrial)

Asbestos Repairs

There are large stocks of asbestos sheeted buildings throughout Ireland and the UK. Some of these buildings are in excess of 50 years old.  The majority of the old sheeting was secured by carbon hook bolts and a lot of fasteners have passed their life span.

General problems:

  • In excessive storms the old fasteners shear off or work loose and can cause considerable damage to sheets.
  • Damages to the translucent sheets with UV degradation which can then become brittle and crack in excessive weather
  • Physical crack to sheets resulting from storms or third parties

SIAC have carried out repairs to existing roofs to prevent further damages.

  • Sealing to cracked sheets – stop gap
  • We have also dealt with numerous cases where we replaced existing roof lights on asbestos roofs
  • We installed new fasteners

Encapsulation of Asbestos

1. Cleaning

Power washing an asbestos roof can give rise to airborne fibres and is a procedure not allowed by the HSA. The specialised roof cleaning equipment which enable us to wash the roof safely, containing the contaminated water which is then filtered through Hepa filters and solids are disposed of as asbestos waste. This leaves the roof ready for encapsulation.

2. Encapsulation

This method encloses or encases the asbestos roof after cleaning. The benefits are that there is no need for a costly remove, dispose & re roof and no risk of fibre release.

3. Liquid Roofing Systems

SIAC personnel have been fully trained and licence contractors in multiple liquid plastic products. SIAC can offer an independent 20 years insurance back garantee with our work.
