Built up Roofing

SIAC Roofing & Cladding is specialised in all types of build up roofing systems. From single ply roofs, Bituminous felts, metal built up systems, liquid plastic solutions and green roofs which are both aesthetically pleasing and kind to the environment.

All these built up roofs form waterproofing solutions to requirements of the buildings. In general the built up roofing starts from a substructure of concrete or metal decking. On this we install a vapour control layer and insulation. The finish weathering roofing system can be made up of multiple finishes to cater for the clients special requirements.

A typical green roofing system consists of a waterproof membrane on top of the building structure, a drainage zone consisting of dimpled polyethylene boards, a separating fleece (which allows water pass through but stops solid particles of soil and sand), a layer of soil is placed over this fleece and a top layer of pre seeded vegetation is rolled out. This “carpet” gives the effect of a green roof immediately. This layer is planted with wild flowers and grasses which presents itself as a summer meadow year after year.

Then the roofs are installed with feature gravel edge details to facilitate drainage and are completed with a man safe “latchway” system which facilitates the connection of a safety harness allowing access for future maintenance.

PVC Roofs

The use of PVC membranes on roofs has advantages. A PVC finished roof offers the clients various colours and textures finishes. It has a clean installation process compared to a bituminous roof build up or asphalt roof.

The PVC membranes are best used on roofs which have little or no roof penetrations. The absence of plant, AHU’s, piperacks and regular access to these roofs is a factor in the selection of a PVC roof finish. Another advantage with PVC is that it can be applied to various roof shapes and curves and the detailing associated with it is very simple and accommodating.

Over the years the manufacturers of PVC membranes have developed thicker membranes to make them more resistant to damages. However a PVC finish rood is easy to repair if it is punctured or damages in any way.

SIAC specialises in green roofs which are both aesthetically pleasing and kind to the environment.

These roofs consist of a waterproof membrane on top of the building structure, a drainage zone consisting of dimpled polyethylene boards, a separating fleece (which allows water pass through but stops solid particles of soil and sand), a layer of soil is placed over this fleece and a top layer of pre seeded vegetation is rolled out. This “carpet” gives the effect of a green roof immediately. This layer is planted with wild flowers and grasses which presents itself as a summer meadow year after year.
